John Deere V. Kinze Part Two: a Chance Worth Taking

Kinze
Forty years ago, Kinze Manufacturing was just a small farm equipment startup near Williamsburg, Iowa. After developing several innovative products, the company was starting to attract the attention of farmers looking for ways to improve their farming efficiency. However, Kinze was also drawing the attention of the industry-giant, John Deere. The following is the second installment of a five-part series describing Jon Kinzenbaw’s early battles with John Deere - both in the field and in the courtroom. What started out as suit over row unit availability, eventually ended in a ruling that forever changed Kinzenbaw’s young company - and the ag equipment industry as a whole! This excerpt is from the book "Fifty Years of Disruptive Innovation" and is told...

For the Love of Machinery: the 2016 National Farm Machinery Show

Love was in the air last week in Louisville. Not because of Valentine’s Day, but because of all the heavy iron on display at the National Farm Machinery Show, hosted on February 10-13. The Kinze Manufacturing booth was the place to be, as scores of farmers looking to update their planters with new features and technology stopped by to discuss our latest product offerings. Visitors consistently expressed a desire to find ways to improve efficiency and yields on tighter budgets as the farming economy continues to recover from its downswing. The crowd was excited about the upcoming dealer-installed hydraulic drive kit for the 4900 Planter. Kinze is offering the kit for 16 row and 24 row 4900 Planters this spring. Another...

Nebraska Farmer Says Kinze is Focused on Its Specialties

Kinze
Today, Sparks of Innovation takes you to Cortland, Nebraska, where Craig Schmidt plants corn and soybeans with a Kinze 3660 16 Row planter, and counts on Kinze 600 and 1050 grain carts at harvest time. Schmidt said Kinze stays focused on its specialties – row crop planters and grain carts – and that's why he stays true to blue. “Kinze just specializes in certain lines of equipment. They’re not specializing in everything from tractors to combines to this and that,” said Craig, whose first Kinze machine was a 12 Row Econo Fold planter with liquid fertilizer and coulters. “So Kinze is solely concentrating, I feel, on their planter line and on their grain cart line. That’s what makes Kinze different from everybody else.” Watch...

First Kinze 4900 Assembled in Europe

Kinze
Members of the Kinze team from the United States and the Czech Republic recently assembled the first Kinze 4900 planter in Europe. Service teams from multiple dealerships throughout the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where the customer’s farming operation is located, worked together to help make this happen.  While large planters aren’t currently common in the European Union, farmers there are beginning to see the advantage of having larger, modern, equipment like the Kinze 4900. The complexity and size of the 4900 required the assembly team to be creative at times. For example, they had to figure out how to squeeze the planter from the assembly cell through a door to a neighboring service bay. In the end, the team overcame...

Ohio Farmer Knows He Can Count on Kinze

Kinze
Today, Sparks of Innovation takes you to De Graff, Ohio, where Steve Schlumbohm has been planting corn and soybeans with Kinze planters since 1978. Steve said he’s always liked the design of Kinze equipment and how it’s built. But that’s not the only thing that keeps him coming back to Kinze. “It comes back to the support system of the company, how good Kinze supports you and how good they make their products in the first place. You don’t have to have a lot of backup, but when you do, Kinze and our dealership have always taken care of us,” said Steve, who currently owns Kinze 4900, 3660 and 3600 planters. Watch the latest installment of Kinze in the Field to see why Steve believes Kinze cares for its...
