Our Thanksgiving Feast

As you enjoy time with your family this weekend, remember your holiday table represents more than just food and football. It represents generosity, gratitude, unity, tradition and above all — hard work. Every dish was prepared with care, but only after weeks (or months) of labor and sacrifice by farmers around the world. During this holiday take some time say "Thank you" to the farmers that work so hard everyday to feed the world. While there are many traditions for the food we enjoy at Thanksgiving, we hope you enjoy this brief history of a selection of them. Mashed Potatoes While buttery and creamy mashed potatoes are a definite favorite on many contemporary Thanksgiving tables, they were not a part of the original Thanksgiving feast documented by William Bradford in his journal. Potatoes were introduced by European immigrants many times throughout the 1600's, but were not widely raised until Scotch-Irish...

Now is the Time to Maintain Your Kinze Grain Cart

It's hard to believe that shortly we will be headed back out to the fields with an army of combines, tractors, grain carts and trucks to get the crop out. Typically the combine gets the majority of attention when preparing for harvest, but performing some pre-season preventive maintenance on your grain cart will help to ensure a smoother harvest. Make sure its ready to roll by following these maintenance tips. Inspect Augers for Noticeable Wear This is key because over time augers will become smaller in diameter and diminish their overall performance. Inspect for wear especially where grain transitions from the horizontal to vertical auger, or from the lower to upper portion of the vertical auger. These grain transition zones are high-wear areas and when worn, cause slow unloading and extra strain on other driveline components. Check the PTO / Drive Belts Make sure they are properly adjusted and that the...
